Hi, I'm Sandra!
I'm the laid-back, down-to-Earth owner of Iris Weddings and Events!
I have always loved planning festivities because I love connecting all the moving pieces that go into creating memorable experiences for people. I thrive in the organized chaos of wedding day and love helping my client's visions come to life.
I believe everyone has their own unique way of expressing love and therefore your wedding should reflect that. A lot of times couples can get caught up in all the pretty things Pinterest or Instagram have to offer and can lose sight of that. My job is to help you navigate through the endless decisions wedding planning involves while staying true to who you are as a couple. The goal is to infuse your wedding with the things you both love, all your quirks and maybe a couple of inside jokes too. At the end of the day, your wedding should be a celebration of your love and your guests should walk into your ceremony or reception and say, "Wow, that is totally them and I love it!"
Couples come in all shapes, colors, and sizes but that's unfortunately not often what we see in the bridal magazines and blogs. As a person of color, I know how important it is to feel like I'm represented and seen, so I try to showcase as much diversity as possible in my social media as well as in editorials.
More About Me:
My boyfriend and I met on OKCupid back in 2013 and coincidentally went to the same school and knew a lot of the same people. We had even been in the same class and hadn't realized it! Talk about coincidence!
We moved to Pilsen from Detroit in 2016 and can't imagine living anywhere else!
I have a chubby 6-year-old tortie named, Baby. She's pretty good at dishing 'tortitude'.
I'm a big fan of kdramas, kpop, and S. Korean culture in general. I'm currently learning to speak Korean and want to visit S. Korea in the near future!
If I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life it would be hot chicken wings!
I'm addicted to spicy food! My go-to spicy dishes are Korean fire chicken and Korean instant ramen! I could probably eat only ramen for the rest of my life as well, come to think of it.
I also have a weakness for pastries, especially flaky, buttery croissants paired with a good ol' Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks!
My favorite drinks are Kentucky mules, Long Islands, and flavored soju! Though I'm not opposed to a sour beer from time to time!
When I'm not watching kdramas, I like to watch fantasy, sci-fi and horror! I also recently started binging Stephen King on audiobook.
If you've made it this far without running, then we're meant to be friends! I'd love to meet you and your fiancé to hear your love story! Kentucky mules on me! Or if you'd prefer something more sensible, there's always coffee and tea!
